Research as Inquiry


In order to share your thoughts and findings, you will be called upon to conduct research presentations, which can be a daunting task. While you spend a great amount of time to develop your research model, find sources or run experiments, write papers, generate data, and so on, most oral presentations at conferences take only about 10-20 minutes. In this short time, you have to effectively communicate the importance of your research, clearly state that importance and how you analyzed your finding and seek to have other academics ask you questions, obtain feedback, and find ways to strengthen your research.

To help you prepare your presentation, there arer a number of multimedia tools available to you to lend visual aid and interest to your presentation to better help you present your research to your colleagues and peers.


PowerPoint

A slide show presentation program currently developed by Microsoft.. PowerPoint is useful for helping develop the slide-based presentation format, and is currently one of the most commonly used presentation programs available. Consisting of a number of individual pages or "slides", that contain text, graphics, sound, movies, and other objects, the presentation can be printed, displayed live on a computer, or navigated through at the command of the presenter. PowerPoint provides numerous features that offer flexibility and the ability to create a professional presentation.

Prezi

Prezi

More dynamic than PowerPoint, Prezi is a presentation software that offers a zoomable canvas that can show the relationships between big picture and finer details. While not as static as PowerPoint, this cloud-based presentation software based on a software as a service model and offers various free templates for users to employ. A free service, Prezi also offers a premium account in which you can keep your presentations private and will allow users to edit presentations on their desktop offline.

Keynote for Mac makes it simple to create and deliver beautiful presentations, and employs powerful tools and dazzling effects that bring your ideas to life. Available and operational on all iOS devices, Keynote is easily used by those who are comfortable with Microsoft PowerPoint.

Canva is a graphic design platform that give users access to a variety of images, tools, and design layouts to create posters, flyers, social media posts, and now presentations. You can use the images and layouts available in Canva, purchase additional imagesand layouts, and/or upload your own images.

PowToon

PowToon

PowToon is an alternative to presentation software such as PowerPoint and Keynote. It is a web-based presentation software that enables users with no technical or design skills to create engaging professional “look and feel” animated presentations. It is a combination of presentation and animated cartoon -- a "powtoon." It is available for free with various paid versions that offer additional content.

If you are concerned about being fully prepared for your presentations, just remember: the hard part is over. You have already done your research, developed your experiments, and written up your findings. In short, no one knows your research better than you and those who come are interested in your research. If you keep those thoughts in mind, then your presentation is on its way to success.
