Student Employment


Much of the daily operation of the Library depends upon our Library Student Assistants (LSAs). The Library employs an average of 25-30 students each semester to help in the day-to-day running of the library.

JOB SUMMARY

Library Student Assistants (LSAs) are responsible for answering basic patron questions, performing routine collection maintenance, and providing first level support for all library functions, including technology assistance. LSAs will be knowledgeable about library policies, well-versed in library resources and services, skilled at providing first level technical support for computers and library equipment, and will provide consistent, high-quality customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide friendly, helpful assistance to all library patrons in person and via phone and LibChat, referring patrons to supervisors as necessary
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all library policies, procedures, services, and resources
  • Support daily operations by using library systems efficiently and accurately  
  • Complete assigned hourly tasks, including patron count
  • Perform stacks maintenance, including sorting items by Library of Congress call number, shelving, shelf reading, straightening, and light cleaning
  • Perform statistics gathering and reporting through the LibAnswers & LibInsight
  • Maintain confidentiality of patron information
  • Provide technology assistance, such as maintaining printer by refilling paper and helping patrons with scanners 
  • Monitor your Georgetown College email for updates related to position
  • Submit timecard promptly
  • Attend Library Student Assistant meetings and complete required trainings
  • Complete any special tasks as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, individuals must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to perform detail-oriented tasks with accuracy and efficiency, a willingness to ask questions, a self-motivating attitude and the wherewithal to ensure job is done completely and correctly. Strong technology skills and customer service experience are preferred.

SCHEDULE

Students must work a minimum of 5 hours per week. Working shifts during finals is required. LSAs are to work during the academic year. However, should they wish to do so, the option of working during college breaks is available.
