Ensor LRC Blog

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to the first blog post on the Ensor LRC Blog...we're working on the name. Maybe something a bit more catchy? Like Library Tidbits, Ensor Tidings, or Game of Thrones. Who knows, maybe we're the next big HBO hit.

In an effort to be more proactive and advertise our services more, the library staff is going to publish a new monthly (we hope) blog to update everyone on new services, resources, building news, and other things we find interesting. Some may be long, some may be short, but all will be fun and informative. Infotainment!

As this is the first, we'll keep it short and sweet. Just a quick hello and welcome back (or welcome for the first time) to Georgetown. We hope your summer was restful and you enjoyed your time away. The library staff worked over the summer to better meet your needs. When you come to the library, you will notice a few changes:

  • The bound periodicals have been removed from the Fireside Room. To meet the need for more quiet study space, library staff decided to weed those little used back files from the collection in order to make room for more study tables and study areas. We continue to subscribe to a limited number of print periodicals. If you are looking for those items, you can find them on the second floor along the outside of the study carrels in the Religion section.
  • If you've visited the library in the past few weeks, you may have noticed that our lobby piano is no longer around. While we kept waiting for Mozart to come play, he never showed, so the administration agreed that the piece could be put to better use in the lobby of Cooke Memorial as an accompaniment to our wonderful Georgetown Chorale. In its place, you will find the Research Desk, relocated from the Ward room. We hope that this new location for the desk will lead to more interactions with those of you who need help with research assignments, inquiries, or just general questions. The Research Desk will start semester hours on Tuesday, September 5 - the day after Labor Day - and will be staffed from 11 AM - 8 PM, Monday - Thursday and from 1 - 8 PM on Sunday. Stop by and let us give a helping hand as you start your research projects.

While there is more that we could share with you right now, you got to leave a little something to keep them coming back for more. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask any of the library staff (we're nice, we promise) and we will be happy to help you. Don't feel like talking to us face-to-face? That's fine too. We have a lot of ways to contact us. Visit http://libguides.georgetowncollege.edu/LRC/services/help to find out how to reach us.

Good luck and we wish everyone a great start to the semester.
