Intro to Academic Research

Google, Yahoo, Bing. These are most user's entryways into the Internet. However, while you may think that you are searching the entire net, you are barely scratching the surface. As depicted in the infographic, there is so much more below the surface that you never see. Some of the most valuable resources on the web exist behind a pay wall, that a user cannot get access to unless they are willing to pay for access. Fortunately, libraries have access to information behind that pay wall through subscriptions to databases and journals. It is also important to keep in mind that all information does not exist on the web. While some library resources exist on the web, their are distinct differences in what you will find searching Google, Yahoo, and Bing and what you will find searching the library's collections.
